There is no greater joy on earth than to dine with your loved ones
Hey there, what are you searching on the internet ? Places to dine out while planning for the upcoming trip ? Guess what, you are in the right place !!
Pink House, Puri – Get the best of
seafood
Puri (state of Orissa) is a go to place for beach lovers especially for people residing in the eastern and north eastern part of India. Apart from the the beautiful Bay of Bengal, this place is a paradise for Fish lovers. Unlike the beaches of Goa, Kerala etc , Puri does not have a shack culture where people can just get laid down, drink beer and eat varieties of seafood. Instead you will get plenty of hotels, bar and restaurants throughout the marive drive as the authorities do not allow setting up of shacks or drinking alcohol on the sea beach.
So everyone, who has visited Puri must be knowing this mostly. But what they don’t know, is if you take an auto for a 10 minutes ride from the famous SwargaDwar which is on the Marine Drive towards ChakraTirtha Road, you will find this little gem called Pink House.
You can get multiple modes of transport to reach the place. This is a hotel cum restaurant situated on the beach. As soon as you enter you will get a vibe of the famous shack culture which we were talking about earlier. The dim lights, the jazz numbers played at the background, the famous Bob Marley paintings on the wall and the smell of freshly cooked sea fish will surely make you feel you are in some parts in Goa already.
The restaurant is divided into two sections mainly, the indoor section which is close to the reception & cooking area and the outdoor area which is the most exciting place to sit actually. On the outer section there were 4 types seating arrangements (wooden huts) depending on the number of guests you have. You can clearly get a view of the ocean and the sound of the gushing waves while enjoying your favourite seafood.
PS : They do not serve alcohol. You can bring your own and drink along with the food, but then again as the place is often visited by families along with their children’s, it is recommended to maintain decency and keep your drinks under the table or somewhere that it can’t be seen openly.
They have a variety of seafood options and the best part is they will cook it at the counter as soon as you order any one of them as there is no concept of pre cooked food.
Definitely try out their Whole Bhetki Fry and Chilli Crab which was absolutely mouth watering. Although they serve Chinese and North Indian cuisine as well, their Continental stands out from the rest. The staff informed us that mostly the fishes they served were fresh as in they were caught on the same day from the Ocean. Do ask them for the catch of the day.
The staffs were courteous and they even helped us to arrange for the transport while returning back. There is a hotel connected to the main restaurant where you can book your holiday as well.
GLENARY’S – The authentic cafe and cake shop
A beautiful cafe and bakery shop set up in 1900’s by an Italian named Pop after he fell in love with Darjeeling. It’s worth saying you will fall in love with Glenary’s along with Darjeeling.
The main attraction of this wonderful place is their evening live music and of course the food they serve, starting from Italian pasta to the mouth watering pork and beef dishes. The bakery shop is a go in for their delicious chocolates and cakes and it is needless to say that their decor will seem pretty in the morning and the pretty whitewashed building will attract the bloggers, and in night it has a romantic, cozy side to offer with it’s dimly lit rooms and the light music. To get the real taste of Darjeeling and to have a romantic dine in with the best food, Glenary’s is a must visit.
KEVENTERS – The real Essence of Darjeeling
It is said, if you visit Darjeeling and didn’t visit the Keventers , it’s a waste. And, it truly is. Why ?
Well this Café was set up in 1911 by Edward Keventer during the british colonial rule, in Darjeeling and now it’s a landmark itself. Being situated on the Nehru road that leads to the Chowrasta mall, has become a beloved for every Bengali novelist, as the writers even the famous Oscar winning SATYAJIT RAY never failed to mention KEVENTERS time after time.
What attracts people to this café is the food it has been serving – THE PORK PLATTER is something you will drool over and the Hot Chocolate in the cold misty weather will keep you going. The variety of coffee is inexplicable as well. The view from the rooftop of this café is like heaven. Sipping your favourite coffee and enjoying the beautiful KANCHENJUNGA with its snow capped peaks, and if you are lucky you can see the whole range, just sitting at keventers, and its also perfect for the photograph
Enthusiast people, with its pretty decors with a touch of vintage and class. Needless to say it’s not only a café but a bakery as well, the first floor of the café will lead to some authentic biscuits and cakes. So, it doesn’t matter you are a tourist or a traveller, if you. Miss this place intentionally or unintentionally, you will miss the whole essence of Darjeeling,
Along with the best sausages , bacons, variety of hot chocolates and coffee. So the next time you are in Darjeeling you should be in keventers for the English breakfast or a good dinner or just for a quick cup of coffee.
Cafe Xtasi – Taste the best Pizza & Burger in Pondicherry
Located across the Mission Street & opposite to the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Pondicherry, Cafe Xtasi is one of the prominent place which every foodie should visit during their trip to the Union Territory.
There are multiple floors in the famous restaurant, but if you get into it we would suggest you to head down straight to the rooftop only if you are ok to compromise with the air condition facility for sometime. We went there during the afternoon but with the decor of the place and with the current hollywood peppy numbers being played softly at the background, we could guess that this place is one of the selected ones for the partygoers.
The place is famous for their wood burn pizza, so if you go there without any haste you should definitely try the pizza and if your still not full you can have their ,massive burger. They also serve hard drinks as well.
Sitting in the rooftop with your gang of friends, chilling with a beer and some pizza will be something we recommend.
The pocket pinch is little bit on a higher side, but the proportion of food they serve and for the ambience around during the evening it’s definitely worth it.
Allen Kitchen,Kolkata – Don’t miss the famous Prawn Cutlet
Location – No. 40/1, Jatindra Mohan Avenue, Kolkata, West Bengal 700006
If you are planning to visit Kolkata, you have to visit this place. Just a 5 minutes walk from the Sovabazar Sutanuti Metro Station, on the famous Central Avenue you will be able to get to see this 130 year old restaurant.
Started 130 years ago by Jeeban Krishna Saha, Allen’s kitchen got its name from a Scot, Mr Allen.
We recommend you to definitely try out their Prawn Cutlet which is their speciality. The Ghee (clarified butter) dipped cutlet, served with boiled potato, green salad and mustard sauce is something that you will fall in love with.
We also recommend you to try out their fish cutlet and fish pakora as well which is equally delicious. The Egg Devil is a little on the sweeter side but the quantity will surely make your stomach full.
Pocket pinch will be on the lower side compared to the popularity and quality of the food they serve
Niranjan Agar,Kolkata – Fry Lovers Paradise
Location – 239/A, Chittaranjan Ave, near Girish Park, Station, Kolkata, West Bengal 700006
Kolkata or earlier Calcutta still try to hold its charm from the British era being the first capital of the British East India Company when they landed in India. The place is still culturally rich and it does reflect on its food as well.
With food delivery guys running from one place of the city to the other and everyday some new restaurant or food joint is coming up here and there, Niranjan Agar continues to hold its ground and the famous Cabin culture in the city.
Located just beside the famous Girish Park Metro station, Niranjan Agar still continues to be a place for fry lovers in the city. It is not that difficult to find a place in the joint, but it is better to avoid during the office hours as you might have to wait for people to finish their food first as they have limited seats. If you are in a group of 5,6 people you can sit in their separate cabin section and enjoy their fries.
You should definitely try :
- Bread and Mutton Kasha
- Egg Devil
- Mutton Cutlet
- Fish Fry
- Special Fish Cutlet
