Booking a ₹300 Special Entry Darshan ticket through the official Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) portal is straightforward but time-sensitive:

  1. Visit the TTD website and register or log in with your mobile number and OTP.
  2. Under “Online Services,” select Special Entry Darshan (SED) and wait through the virtual queue.
  3. Choose your preferred date and time slot from the real-time calendar.
  4. Enter each pilgrim’s details (name, age, gender) and upload valid ID proof (Aadhaar, passport, etc.).
  5. Complete the secure online payment (₹300 per ticket) and download your e-tickets.

Plan ahead: slots fill rapidly, and missed payments or navigation errors can force you back to the queue.

Types of Darshan

  • Sarva Darshan (Free): General queue, no ticket required, longer waits.
  • Slotted Sarva Darshan: Token-based free darshan at scheduled times.
  • Special Entry Darshan (₹300): Faster access via a dedicated corridor.
  • Other Special Darshans: Infant, senior citizen, physically challenged, VIP, NRI, and various seva-based darshans, each with its own fees and schedules.

  1. Arrive at the Tirumala foothills by bus or private vehicle, then head to the ATC Circle
  2. Present your printed e-ticket and original ID proof at the entry kiosk—each ticket is linked biometrically, and only one ticket is valid per person (children under 12 enter free with parents).
  3. Once verified, proceed through the Special Entry corridor, where queue times are typically under 30 minutes.
  4. Follow temple signage and volunteer directions until you reach the sanctum.
  5. After darshan, you can collect prasadam and exit through the designated gates, ensuring a seamless, dignified pilgrimage experience.

After months of juggling schedules and waiting for the right moment, our long-awaited trip to Tirupati is finally happening—and it feels surreal. What started as a casual conversation over chai in Mumbai slowly turned into a full-blown mission, complete with spreadsheets, reminders, and a whole lot of patience. The biggest win? Scoring the elusive Special Entry Darshan tickets, which felt like winning the lottery. With those in hand, the excitement has skyrocketed. We’re not just going on a trip—we’re heading into a spiritual journey we’ve all been craving, a chance to stand before Lord Balaji and soak in the peace we’ve only heard about. From the chaos of Mumbai to the calm of Tirumala, this plan is finally taking shape—and we couldn’t be more ready.

Day 1: The Journey Begins from Mumbai

Our pilgrimage began with an overnight train from Mumbai 12163 – Mumbai Ltt Mgr Chennai Central Sf Express. As the train gently rocked us to sleep, I couldn’t help but feel a quiet anticipation building. There’s something magical about train journeys in India—the conversations, the chai, the changing landscapes. It felt like the perfect prelude to a spiritual adventure.

Day 2: Arrival in Tirupati and Temple Trail

We arrived at Renigunta station in the afternoon at around 1pm and made our way to our hotel in Tirupati to freshen up. Ola, Uber services are available and bus services are also there. So dont fall in trap for touts, brokers charging you exorbitant money. After a quick rest, we set out to explore some of the revered temples in the area:

  • 🕉️ ISKCON Temple – A serene and beautifully maintained temple with soothing bhajans and a peaceful atmosphere.
  • 🌊 Kapila Theertham (Kapileswara Temple) – Nestled at the base of the Tirumala hills, this Shiva temple is known for its sacred waterfall and tranquil surroundings.
  • 🌸 Padmavati Ammavari Temple – Dedicated to Goddess Padmavati, the consort of Lord Venkateswara. The temple exudes grace and devotion.
  • 👑 Sri Raja Gopalaswamy Temple – A lesser-known gem, this temple offered a quiet and intimate spiritual experience.

Day 3: The Sacred Climb to Tirumala

On Day 3, we boarded a state-run bus to Tirumala, which cost ₹180 for a round trip. Always opt for buses as they are available every 5 mins. There are ac buses also available. The ride through the winding ghat roads took about 1 hour, offering breathtaking views of the hills and forests. Do not carry plastic bottles, cigarette, gutkha, pan masala, chewing gum etc as it will be checked thrice during this visit.

Once you get down, head towards the circle where free bus service is available which will take you to ATC circle where you have to report. Our slot timing was at 4pm, but we reached there by 1pm and they allowed entry. They only check date and not the timing.

Once you enter inside, you need to submit all belongings like mobile, bag , electronic gadgets etc and you would receive a token to collect from there. Dont loose that token while coming out.

We had booked the ₹300 Special Entry Darshan ticket, which made the process smoother. When we entered they made us sit in a large hall room where they offered prasadam and water for free. You can use toilets also. Adhere to the dress code for men and women before entering the temple.

After a bit of waiting and chanting in the queue, we got checked again with id and pass. Always carry your original adhaar card and a printout of the pass as inside mobile will not be allowed to check through. It took us almost 2hours to finally enter the sanctum sanctorum.

From Mumbai to the Hills of Faith: Tirupati Darshan – The Moment: Darshan of Lord Balaji

Words fall short when trying to describe the feeling of standing before the Balaji idol. The moment I laid eyes on the deity, time seemed to pause. The idol, adorned in gold and flowers, radiated a divine presence that was both humbling and uplifting. It felt like all the noise of the world faded away, replaced by a deep, resonant silence within. Our heart was full, and mind still. It was not just a sight—it was a connection. The guards dint even allow us to stand for 5 seconds also as there was a huge rush being a weekend.

After Darshan Process

Once your darshan is over, you would be taken out from the mail temple front gate. Go to the left with your pass where you would get the laddoo prasadam You can also purchase more laddoos by paying more. Each costs Rs 50.

Go straight up near the front gate to get a full image of the temple premise. Ask someone where the diyas are being lit. You would get the best view from there. Once done, just beside the temple premise there is a road which leads you straight back to ATC circle again where you have kept your shoes and have reported earlier. Dont fall for private taxis or touts they will lead you around the temple for 2,3 km and charge you more. The walk back to the ATC circle is hardly 300-400 metres.

Once you get back your shoes, get to the bus stand using free bus service and head down towards Tirupati town.

A Memorable Dinner at Blue Star Restaurant

That evening, we celebrated with a special dinner at Blue Star Restaurant in Tirumala. The cozy, wood-paneled dining room felt like a welcome retreat after the day’s devotion. We savored their rich cuisine and different delicacies they offered. Between mouthfuls, we shared stories of the darshan and watched the hills glow pink in the fading light. It was the perfect way to cap a spiritually charged day.

Day 4: Farewell and Return to Mumbai

With hearts full and spirits renewed, we boarded our train 22158 MS CSMT SF EXP from Renigunta and began our journey back to Mumbai. Though the trip had come to an end, the peace and blessings we received lingered on.
